What gets extracted — and what doesn't

Tabulyn is a table extractor, not an invoice parser. That difference decides what you get back:

Extracted

  • The line-item table
  • Descriptions and item codes
  • Quantities and unit prices
  • Line totals and extended amounts
  • Subtotal / tax / total rows inside that table

! Not extracted

  • Invoice number and PO number
  • Vendor and billing addresses
  • Issue and due dates
  • Payment terms and notes
  • Anything printed outside the table grid

If you need those header fields pulled into structured data as well, that's invoice-specific extraction — a planned feature, not something the product does today.

Why the numbers matter

Most PDF converters hand you a sheet where $1,250.00 is text. It looks correct, lines up neatly, and then every formula you write returns zero. Tabulyn classifies each cell during extraction, so currency, percentages, and quantities arrive as real numeric values — a total column adds up the moment the file opens.

Questions about invoices

Does it pull out the invoice number, vendor, and due date?

No — and it's worth being clear about the distinction. Tabulyn extracts tables, which means the line-item grid. Fields printed outside that grid, like invoice number, vendor address, or due date, are page text rather than table rows and aren't captured. Dedicated invoice-field extraction is a separate feature that isn't built yet.

What about the totals block at the bottom?

Subtotal, tax, and total rows are usually part of the same ruled table as the line items, so they normally come through as the last rows of the extracted table. When they sit in a separate box below, they may be detected as a second small table instead — both appear in the preview and you choose what to export.

Can I process a batch of invoices at once?

Not yet — conversion is one file at a time, and the free tier allows a few conversions per hour. Batch processing is on the roadmap but isn't available today.

Do quantities and prices stay numeric?

Yes. Currency amounts, plain numbers, and percentages are detected during extraction and written to Excel as typed values, so a total column sums correctly the moment you open the file.

My invoice is a scan from a supplier. Will it work?

No. If you can't select the text with your cursor, the page is an image and needs OCR, which isn't supported yet. Ask the supplier for the original PDF where possible — invoices emailed from accounting software are almost always digital.

Working with statements too?

The same engine handles PDF bank statements, including multi-page transaction lists.
